...he has a laugh with the kids, he teaches the lesson, he calls pretty much every child ‘my friend’, even when correcting them.
I feel almost vindicated for being the way I am.
Moral of the story? Don’t allow anyone to criticise your personality in the classroom.

Children need to see all personalities flourish and achieve, and everyone needs to find their own teaching style, loud or quiet. If I faked it the kids would suss me out in a heartbeat and I’d be miserable. So do your thang
