Ok, so a lot of people think I’ve tweeted that thread solely because ableism harms the disability community, which is true, but not in the way you think.

Yeah, ableism is psychologically taxing, but also, press and media have zero capacity grappling with the effects of human
Behavior once they start peddling in ableism: lest we not forget at the beginning of this pandemic, the virus was downplayed saying it was “only the disabled and elderly” which turned into OpEds like “why 72 is long enough to live” which led to “people refuse shut downs and
Demand return to normal” and we then saw “armed mask protests in name of freedom” and then the press was like “why aren’t we doing better on COVID?” And “why we’re battling COVID 6 months later.”

And while we may want to only blame Trump, a lot of it started with press
And media pushing ableism. They can’t handle the escalation in ableism so it’s better that it doesn’t start in the first place...
