6 years ago, my buddies and I tried catering at Earth Dance. Mimi nilikuwa nishaona venye tutaomoka after that event. Heh. Tuliuma nje! đź’€.
So I think we were in 2nd year in pale UoN Parklands Campus. Nilikuwa na mbogi yangu ya wazito! We were about 11 of and we had just registered our company, Muse Limited.
In our mbogi we had @elvallary @AurieMusiq who were really into the whole cooking thing. Making savoury snacks and pastries. So we had a ka subsidiary called Zerie Treats! Our chief business strategist @Dagori_ alikuwa ametufunza hizi vitu za subsidiary hadi tukaingia box.
I can't remember if we did an event before earth dance, but when earth dance came along we knew we had to do it! Earth Dance was huge back then. 6am events were everything! Tukajua hapa we have a chance to sell food to about 4,000- 5,000 people. Hapo si tungekuwa billionaires?
So I think we paid 25k for a spot at Earth Dance. That was alot of money for us in 2nd year. This was an impromptu event and most of us used to have an allowance of less than 10k per month and no savings. So I don't know how we did it but we raised that 25k and secured a slot.
Somehow we used to live very lavish lifestyles with that 10k. We used to have lunch at the expensive poolside in Parkie with now celebs like @theMagunga and Corazon Kwamboka 🤣.I used to manage to fuel a car and go visit my then girlfriend in South C quite often.
Back to Earthdance, this is part of the squad planning for the millions we would make. I am on the one at the far back on my phone
We drove all over Nairobi and Kiambu looking for the cheapest deals on everything. We got our chicken somewhere deep on Githunguri. Hotdogs, Choma sausages, beef patties from that ka outlet that is pale opposite GPO on Koinange Street
Correct me if I'm wrong @Dagori_ but our plan was to sell to about 2,000 people? The event organizers had assured us there will be more than 4,000 people and no food from outside would be allowed.
Anyway, this was our Menu (overpriced, I know). But the crowd at Earth Dance traditionally is one that had money. Guys smoke alot of weed so we also knew munchies would hit hard. Quite advanced ey? Masai theme in a hippie event.
Earth dance is here. We have a grill, we have prepped everything, we have hired a guy for chomaing meat to help us out. We have invested about 100,000 in this thing. Where the money came from, I don't know
Let me tell you Maina, that Earth dance was the so poorly attended. I think it the worst attended 6 am event. Probably less than a 1000 people came. I don't know if it was the line up of the location that was bad (Migaa Golf Estate)
These friends of mine, some of them decided they wanted to party instead of selling. Naskia Kuna mtu alikuwa huko juu kwa madeejay by the time the event ilikuwa inashika
At some point we had to reduce the prices to attract more people. Alafu pia we started hawking samosas and sausages on the dance floor
Imagine yourself jamming to your favorites EDM jam and the guy next you is holding a bowl of samosas trying to sell to you. 🤣🤣. That was us
We were overpriced, the event didn't attract half as much people as expected. When the event ended we knew it had bitten itself each other. You just look at the food you have left unajua ni kubaya
Luckily, we somehow broke even. @Dagori_ remembers we made a profit of 2k. I remember we made a loss of like 2k. 🤣. The problem was now how do we deal with this food.

Sisi ni nani. We ate it bro.
Kwanza those hotdogs. Heeeh. We even had a special function at one of our houses to just eat.
I'm just happy we all turned out alright 🤣. No one got sick from the food.
We are all doing different things now. Some of us are Advocates, one is a supermodel(at some point miss Kenya) doing her thing abroad (you can gezz who went to party!), one is a UX/UI expert working with tech companies, one is in HR, Two have become serious businesspeople.
One is doing her business in that line of food baking cakes @elvallary .
What can I say, Mungu yuko nasi tu. Tunazidi kuzidi
