Only thing I can think of re: Meadows alleged statement is that maybe he's overly excited & views the situation differently. I think to when mom & dad were diagnosed & I envisioned worst-case scenario & operated on that mindset even though they were exhibiting mildish symptoms.
Every cough or sneeze I heard from mom and dad when they had the coronavirus was, in my view, like "OMG, they're getting worse!" We have to remember that the ppl closest to Trump are right in the middle of the situation and are dealing w/ their own emotions/thoughts/fears.
This is also a rapidly evolving situation considering all the players involved & the armchair QBs who have differing opinions just based on how Trump may have looked at a particular point. The messaging isn't perfect, but even if it was, ppl would be suspicious of that, too.
Lastly, there's this hugely important point, which is that right now the WH has to do a careful balancing act between informing the press/public and refraining from giving away the kind of information that could embolden enemies who are watching - https://twitter.com/BruceHaynesDC/status/1312427248226574337
