Today I went looking for a bit of nature to immerse myself in. This is my favorite time of year and it's a sunny day, with temps just about perfect (17-19 C).

I found a tiny nature area with a 1 mile trail that promised a small waterfall.

Spoiler: we're in a horrific drought
No waterfall. Not even a stream. 😕

The 1 mile turned out to be over rather challenging (for potato-shaped me) terrain. Lots of rocks and ledges. Lots of climbing up and down. Thankfully I found a sturdy stick to assist my short limbs.

But it was worth it.
Literally not one other person there.

Near the trailhead is a little cache box on a post. Wearing a knit hat.
Inside the box was a random assortment of notes and gum (?) and some trash.

I hope so, Bill T, I hope so...
The entire ground was carpeted in fallen leaves, yet most of the trees were still green.
About halfway round the trail loop was the remains of a house. Nothing standing but the chimney and hearth.
Despite the extended drought, fungi, lichen, and moss abounded.
There were tiny wildflowers on the forest floor.
And some colorful reminders that the seasons are changing and winter is coming.
Leaves fell all around me like a gentle rain. The sound of acorns plummeting to earth from their lofty heights sounded like squirrel artillery practice.

A grand little hike to get me out of my head and properly recentered.

Thanks for coming along! I hope you enjoyed it.
