SFPA members: You received an important voting ballot via email this week. This ballot would make officer terms 4 years and voting occur in consecutive years so no officer is up for election at one time.
SFPA is proposing this amendment to its constitution after forgetting to hold an election for president last year, resulting in 3 open officer positions this year.
(You read that right: an important SFF organization entirely forgot to follow its own constitution rules.)
SFPA is currently looking for officers for its major positions of President, VP, and Secretary. Application info here:

I have participated in a lot of SFPA things in the past and have come to realize that this organization needs new voices. A checkered history has left very few people willing to engage after so many issues.
The announcement for this election was only made in Star*Line, not on the website, so probably many folks were unaware. There is an important discussion surrounding this on the SFPA Facebook and http://groups.io pages.
I could go on about the issues I and others have experienced, the history of poor treatment of marginalized voices, the communication problems, the acerbic attitude of certain officers and members.
I no longer feel committed to being the voice pushing for change. It’s too exhausting. I have too many people relying on my energies elsewhere.
But there may be people who want change and I encourage them to speak up, vote, and get involved.

I believe in the speculative poetry genre. And I love and appreciate many poets in this community. I would love to see a SFPA that lifts up its members, encourages discourse, and is inclusive of the diverse, magical community I know and love.
If anyone has questions about this thread, my DMs are open.
