That Elijah Hughes reddit comment yesterday was so ignorant that it brought out my petty side. So below is a thread of almost everything from the BC/Syracuse game in January to present an unbiased presentation of an average game from Hughes. Thread below:
"Hughes doesn't do anything well"

Lets start negative: Here's 6 of his 7 misses. Outside of the first shot (may have been a foul idk), these are just simple misses. Not much stands out here. Not bad shot selection, and maybe only the corner 3 is forced
He also kept looks alive for teammates, like the 2 man game that led to the bricked corner 3. The drive where he misses point blank is fine considering he shot 70+% at the rim for the year.
"He doesn't have big enough strengths to outweigh his massive weaknesses"

Look, I'll let you be the judge here: do his makes + fouls drawn (below) outweigh his misses (above)?

Looks like a pretty easy 3 level scorer to me, and not easy to stop getting to the rim
"You cannot be Hughes' level of a defender"

This is such a lazy narrative because of the zone. He makes reads like the ones below almost every game. He rotates well (partially the zone) but also knows when to abandon the zone for the right play. Even plays big at the rim on D
"You cannot be Hughes' level of a decision maker -without elite level of ball handling"

Not gonna call him elite, but he's a very good ball handler with both hands and had a pretty low turnover rate. Watch how comfortable he is with his left hand and also just as a playmaker
Paraphrased but he says Hughes does not bring elite shooting

Cheating on this one since makes have already been shown, and he only made 1 three this game so that didnt fit my narrative lmao

I trust FT% and hitting deep 3s more than his 34% from 3 https://twitter.com/MavsDraft/status/1305640575199260673
I also don't think he needs to be elite as a shooter to thrive, but he ranks very highly for me as a shooter. Not many prospects have that range
"Very low effort player"

Interesting. Watch his effort on the glass. I even spot a play that his effort on the glass saved a possession and led to 3 points. Motor isn't anywhere near an issue for Hughes- this was the biggest giveaway that this guy is ignorant
"Essentially everything you don't want in a player"

Might be the worst line of it all. High character, high motor and work ethic, 3 level scorer, showed flashes on D you don't normally see in the zone from guards/wings, comfortable ball handler and good athlete. #12 on my board
