Watching horror movies all month again! Unlike last year I am not trying to hit any particular number because it actually seems impossible that I will not hit 31 in our current circumstances!!! no judgement on how much time I’m spending watching movies, this is a safe space
10/1-10/2:
Texas chainsaw massacre 3D (this was fine)
Audition (finally!! Going to do more Miike this month)
Re-animator (fun and the practical effects were a treat)
The descent (happy with my plan to never go spelunking)
Mandy (shot with Instagram filters imo)
cronenberg’s “the fly”. Yet again I must express serious concern about the scientific ethics on display here.
bad ben ... low budget found footage is my passion ... and this one is about a house flipper
“Butterfly kisses” ... a found footage embedded in a mockumentary. Lots of cameos from directors, everybody just having fun with the concept.
Doing a rewatch of “hostel” for the first time in a decade to see how it ages. I’m guessing badly but we’ll see!!!!
“the taking of Deborah Logan” (another rewatch). I like it even more the second time actually, some truly horrifying effects for FF.
More cronenberg: “Videodrome”. Have been meaning to watch this since my days of working in the video section of the library. Anyway media sure is fucked up and it sure is fucking up my brain as we speak.
“The city of the dead” ...... when doing historical field research goes bad
“Dark mountain”. This was very bad (had high hopes for this Superstition Mountains FF smdh). “Sea fever” was not bad but also not particularly good.
Fulci’s “don’t torture a duckling”, our first giallo for the month. Very good, hot (but dangerous!!!) priest, weird stunts with dolls, that classic giallo blood we all know and love.
More giallo: “the perfume of the lady in black”.
a little Vincent price with “house on haunted hill”
“Children of the corn” (a rewatch). Somehow completely forgot the bizarre special effects used in this. Technology!! We love it folks.
“Descent into darkness” (yes, another) found footage about a guy from Eastern Europe going to Paris to shoot a travel documentary and completely fucking losing it. Have no idea how I felt about this, actually.
“Phenomena” ... one of the last big Argento movies I haven’t seen. When that goblin soundtrack hits >>>>>>>>>
“Vampire circus” (pretty much exactly what it says on the tin) and “the wailing” (this ruled).
“Pulse” (or “Kairo”). Loved this both aesthetically and plot-wise. makes me weirdly nostalgic for the early aughts with computer labs full of CRT monitors.
“Sweetheart”, a fun lil blumhouse monster movie.
“Creep” (do not confuse it with the identically-named movie starring my disturbing crush, mark duplass). Another monster movie set in the subway, actually surprised at how much I liked it.
The 1963 adaptation of “the haunting” (streaming on TCM)
hm a movie about being isolated in your apartment during a disease outbreak. Who could possibly relate. A decent lil zombie flick tho.
frankly, I regret watching this one. Brain feels horrible.
“Picnic at hanging rock” (a rewatch). Damn I’d love to get lured up that big beautiful rock and end up slowly dying in the bush.
“Host”. A lil seance story shot over zoom. Spooky with some fun practical effects that my husband has excitedly told me all the actors executed themselves in their own homes. Some good jump scares.
“Blood quantum”, a zombie movie set on a Mi'gmaq reserve where white people are vectors and indigenous people are immune. I really liked this and plan to watch barnaby’s first feature soon.
“Revenge.” Exactly what it says on the tin. Some vile men get what’s coming to them. Directed and written by a woman which is a nice change for this genre. Liked this a lot too.
playing a little catch-up with this... Fulcis “zombie” ... this was fine. Perfectly serviceable zombie movie.
“Beach house.” This took a while to get going (though doing edibles with your parents friends is in, it’s own way, horrifying) but was weird and perfectly good.
This Argentina haunted house movie banged. Great visual effects. Fantastic jump scares. Loved it.
*Argentinean ... sorry .... as I have stated before I refuse to proofread tweets
