We are all a swirl of love and anger and compassion and grief.

Finding compassion is work. You don’t have to always be in that state. You can put your limited energy where you find it most valuable.
It’s true that hating hurts, and if you want to put your energy towards hating less, that could be good for you, just like exercising could be good for you.
But nobody gets to tell you what your priorities should be.

We are all a swirl of love and anger and compassion and grief.

Love *you*, love your loved ones, and if you have energy left over, maybe take some inspiration from that famous advice to love your neighbor.
On a very good day, I can find love for that one guy in some kind of way. I don’t walk around like that all the time, surrounded by a choir of angels and unicorns farting rainbows.

And I don’t feel guilty about that.
Holding myself in a “I’m totally compassionate no matter what and would never wish harm on anyone” stance is disingenuous, which is exhausting.
Compassion isn’t a competition and you don’t owe anybody your heart.
