A doctor in our team discusses the long term health impacts of Covid19 in this must read thread.
It is important to understand and acknowledge that one might continue to experience some discomfort even after recovery and priorotise post recovery care. Read on to know more.

Almost every recovered patient will have a degree of fatigue. Most will start feeling better within 10-15 days of being diagnosed, while a few might take around 2-3months to get back to their old levels of vitality.
Nutrition plays a key role in this recovery.

2/12
Patients should maintain a balanced diet with proteins, carbohydrates, fats and micronutrients. The body needs to replenish them after a prolonged illness. Many will have reduced appetite, but should still maintain a healthy diet. Consider food to be part of treatment.

3/12
Joint and muscle pains are common during recovery. Those with prior autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis etc should be watchful for flare-ups. Use ice packs/pain medication as needed. Ensure to get persistent joint swelling/pain looked at by a competent doctor

4/12
Any patients who suffer from pre-existing conditions like asthma, type 2 diabetes, heart failure, kidney disease, etc will have a longer road to recovery and should maintain follow-up with their treating physician to monitor for any serious complications.

5/12
Particular attention/care should be taken with the elderly as well. A prolonged illness like Covid-19 can cause frailty in older patients. Mild to moderate physical activity and social interactions should be encouraged, they play a huge role in ensuring their well-being.

6/12
Children and rarely adults may get rashes or other skin manifestations. As they can be a sign of other complications, these kinds of rashes should not be ignored and should immediately be shown to a doctor.

7/12
Many patients may suffer from anxiety, depression or similar conditions. They should be given a supportive environment to express themselves and share their thoughts with other people. Many phone helplines and online support forums also exist for patients seeking such help.

8/12
Exercise plays another key role in assisting recovery. Patients on the path to recovery should start exercising to the best of their ability.
Consider this as physiotherapy, however, and not your regular gym routine. Start out slow, and take small, slow increments.

9/12
Walking, stretching, yoga and isometric exercises should be done by every patient to the best of their capacity.
Any avid gym goers should take things slow and gradually ramp back up to their regular routine.

10/12
The GoI, in consultation with AIIMS and the AYUSH ministry has advised supplements like Ayush Kwath, giloy powder, ashwagandha, amla and chyawanprash. These traditional medicines can provide a boost to immunity and cognition, and may be taken as per the advice of the MoHFW

11/12
As with any other disease, a period of convalescence is required even after discharge from the hospital. It is suggested that patients take things easy for 15 days, relax and let the body recover.
