Tried to practice deep listening of a trumper yesterday—a friend of a friend we ran into.

Fascinating.

The QANON/Trump supporter narrative is about resisting control of elites while simultaneously ceding all control of your mind to the worst example of an elite there is.

The reason deep listening is so hard is nothing about the story holds together without an admission of deep racist fears. But you can’t get a trumper to say “I’m a racist and I’m afraid” so you just dance around a story of controlling elites in contradiction with itself.

I will try deep listening again after we get the GOP out of unearned power but I’m deeply skeptical because the core narrative of racism is so protected, so untransparent in their supporters.

None of this will be easy and perhaps it will be impossible, but I will try.
