Aug 2016, TMA signed an agreement with Addu Int Airport & put up a seaplane base in Gan Airport. The idea was to operate in the souther region covering Addu, Fuvahmulah & Huvadhoo Atoll. A temp ramp was put in & a DHC-6 was docked over doing multiple test in the region. 1/4
In 2016 Nov, it was said that TMA built their temp base and in Dec 2016, Sri Lankan commenced direct flights via Gan Airport. In Dec 2018, South African started their direct service. 2/4
The southern region at the moment has 3 Domestic Airport & 1 International Airport connecting the 4 atolls with Male', the main hub of Maldives with Maldivian doing daily connecting flights for both local & tourist. 3/4
In an informal conversation I had back then with a TMA friend, he said they stopped the service as it was not feasible with less beds, less direct flights & with Maldivian domestic airports at much closer vicinity. What has changed since last 4 years? 4/4
