Family:

Father: David Clinton Heard (1950) - works as a contractor.
Mother: Patricia Paige (1956 – 2020) - worked in telecommunications for the state.
Younger sister: Whitney Henriquez – studied to be a film director at Santa Monica College. Married and has a son Hunter.

Early life:

Amber was born April 22, 1986 in Northeast Austin, Texas. Attended St. Michael’s Catholic School. At 17 dropped out of high school to move to New York. Amber earned her high school diploma through correspondence courses soon after leaving St.Michael’s.

Her favorite place in Austin is Spider House Café. She used to hang out there before, during and after classes (yep, our girl skipped classes, still had a really high score(1400) on her SAT). She spent a lot of time at libraries as well according to her mother.

''I was looking for any excuse at all to get out of high school. It was either finish high school and go to college and then get stuck in the nine to five. Or go to New York and just see what happened. ''

At that time Amber started sending headshots to modelling agencies (she’d taken part in beauty pageants as a child) and at 17 dropped out of high school to move to New York to become a model (hated it though) and (she spent all her money that she earned by babysitting).

''I hated the idea of school dances, hated whatever was going on in pop culture. I didn’t have any concept of celebrities or Hollywood. I was always reading, reading and listening to the music. The only posters I had on my wall were Rosie the Riveter and Jimi Hendrix. ''

Religion:

''At 16, Heard’s best friend died in a car crash, and it had a profound effect. Raised a Roman Catholic, she declared herself an atheist, and began reading books by Ayn Rand, Ray Bradbury and George Orwell. ''

'' I’ve been an atheist for a long, long time, and in a way, that was a catalyst for me. That was a vehicle I needed to get out of the environment I grew up in, which was very religious. ''

As a teenager, she didn’t dream of becoming an actress. '' My mom always says that if something had wheels, I was obsessed with it – cars, bikes, planes too. I was always wanting to go somewhere.''

Career:

While watching The Cremaster cycle at the Dobie Theater in Austin I thought to myself, Wow, [acting] is what I want to do for the rest of my life. After completing a home-study diploma in New York she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Was a global spokesperson for Guess, currently is for L’Oreal Paris.

Activism:

She is a longtime supporter of women’s rights and has been a prominent voice in the LGBTQ community since 2006. She is a L’Oréal Global Spokesperson, the ACLU Ambassador for Women’s Rights, and a United Nations International Champion for Human Rights.

Awards:

She likes crossword puzzles, she does The New York Times one every morning. She likes listening to old bluegrass(Blind Willie McTell, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Nina Simone) music, R&B and country. Her TV guilty pleasure is the dog the bounty hunter.
