Exposing the myth: “Pep Guardiola is a fraud who inherited the best teams and anyone could do what he does with the money he spends.”

A Thread:
Where it started. Before Pep’s arrival, the last major title that Barça had won was the Champions League in 06. Trophy-less for 2 years. It’s true that the squad that Guardiola inherited wasn’t too much different from the CL winning squad, but they lacked discipline and focus
After a successful season winning the league with Barca B, he’s promoted to head coach of the club. He wastes no time messing around. In his first interview he lays down the law by pointing out the trouble makers and removing them from the squad.
"All of the players in the first-team squad last season are of a very high level. But with the technical secretary we are forming a squad and Deco, Ronaldinho, and Eto'o are not in our minds." Those 3 were all most popular players for Barca so this was a BIG decision by pep
Guardiola made his side play in a much different style to Rijkaard. He focused on possession and implemented the famous press. The midfield trio linked under Pep, unlike the midfield system under Rijkaard. And Busquets, who pep promoted from the u-20s, was at the centre of it.
Guardiola went on to win the sextuple, In his first season in a top European league. The only manager to ever do so till date. And the best part was, with the result; came beautiful football. And this still wasn’t the best Barça side ever or even his
Barça fans or any football fan will tell you the 2011 Barça team is the best of all time. Which goes to show, Guardiola improves his players and gives more reasoning that he didn’t just inherit the squad that won everything. Despite winning less that season.
Peps Barcelona side was the only team legendary manager sir Alex Ferguson was afraid off. Beating them in 2 champions league finals in 3 years. No question that peps Barca was the greatest side of all time and he is the greatest coach in the clubs history
The biggest question mark over his time at Bayern was the Champions League, reaching the semi final thrice. It’s the biggest competition in club football, but it’s not the most defining. The league is. The league is a true measuring stick of consistency over a year.
Pep won the league every single season without fail at Bayern, taking control back of Germany which was previously a tight battle between the countries two biggest clubs Bayern & Dortmund. Since his departure, Bayern have won the league every year, proving he laid the foundations
Many of Bayern’s current treble winning squad, was signed, or developed by pep. Thiago for example was coached by pep at Barca B, brought into the first team, then coached at Bayern by the Catalan. Uefa POTY Lewandoski was also signed and developed by pep as was Uefa DOTY kimmich
Winning the league isn’t an excuse for Guardiola’s European failure since leaving Barça, but it goes to show that the Champions League shouldn’t define how good a coach is. Even Ferguson only won two in his almost 3-decade long tenure at United. Wenger never won it either
Onto city now. As a city fan I can confirm he’s our greatest ever manager after what he has done so far, and he’s still got a year or two left
Then you get people moaning that his success at City comes from spending. Talk all you want about where City gets the money from. Guardiola had to spend. And he did it in an inflated market. He replaced an aging team with youth, great talents and he improved them.
Fernando, Zabaleta, yaya, Demichelis, Wright, Sagna - above 31. Even Fernandinho was 31 and Kompany 30. Some of them stayed at City and still play till date. But the signings since then have been to replace the ageing players. And it only makes sense to do it with top players.
Why wouldn’t a top coach buy youngsters and top talents to improve his side? In an inflated market too where £50m today can be comparable to £20m ten years ago. How much more would De Bruyne and Sterling be worth today in comparison to when City signed them?
Pep was predicted to flop in England, and his tactics fail. But since coming to England’s he’s had 2 outstanding seasons which have never been matched.

17/18: league and cup double + a record 100 points.

18/19: First to win all 4 domestic honours

Not bad for a “fraud”
Finally, let’s not let arrogance get ahead of you, and admit, that Guardiola improves his players. If Messi and Iniesta wernt examples, just look at Sterling now. And if you don’t want to look at the past, then also look at Mahrez, De Bruyne, Walker, Fernandinho and so on.
Truth is, Guardiola is disliked because he doesn’t coach your team. Compared to other legendary coaches peps has the best trophies per season record by far.

Pep: 2.64
Fergie: 1.2
Jose: 1.6
Ancelotti: 0.84

Peps is miles clear of any other contender

Not bad for a “bald fraud”
Josep Guardiola Sala, the greatest coach in the history of the game. They all doubted him before he came to England. But that bald man defied odds and has dominated every country he has been in. The greatest there has been, And the greatest there will ever be
