Brazilian #disabilitytwitter is blowing up with repudiations of Bolsonaro's decree yesterday, which institutes "special" schools for children with disabilities. Essentially it launches a kind of "separate but equal" system in which disabled kids are separated from their peers 1/3
and funneled into a completely different part of the school system (separate schools & classrooms). And this was done without so much as a single vote or public consultation. In other words, it's a top-down order that turns the clock back decades on inclusive education policy 2/3
including the signing of international conventions like the United Nations CRPD (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Art. 24). Yet another withdrawal of hard-won rights during this ghastly administration. 3/3
