I had a good sit with myself about why I’ve been so bothered by people asking me how to break into games. Part of it is the volume. I sometimes get a dozen in a day.

But the other part is... I often don’t know what to tell them. Get a portfolio? Network? Apply? Is that it? Help.
That’s usually what I suggest to people. I recommend discord/Facebook groups, conventions, talks to watch online, what to have in a portfolio.

But is that even helpful? I feel like that could come from a 5 min google.

Honestly asking— what are people looking for when they ask?
I sometimes get so overwhelmed feeling like I need to help everyone messaging me, and not knowing what to do to help them, but feeling a responsibility to lift others up, that I spin out, crash, don’t end up answering them, & can’t get my work done. It sucks & I need advice. Help
I wish there was some magical piece of advice that could get everyone who wants a job in this industry one. Lord knows we could use the enthusiasm. But there isnt. It’s hard work, networking, & far too much luck. I’m fighting to make that answer better but it’s that for now.
Anyway, I apologize for how I’ve been complaining about this lately. I’ve been the old man yelling at a cloud & it’s been wrong of me.

The issue hasn’t really been people asking, it’s there not being a good answer for them... & me projecting my insecurity about that.
