I got a bit of a shock reading this statement on the @CollegeofPolice website describing Jackie Smith’s (now a director at the College) time as CEO of @nmcnews as ‘6 very successful years’...

A quick thread to put the record straight... 1/...
For the avoidance of doubt, the PSA published a detailed report relating to the NMC covering the period of time in question - which can be read here:

A few press reports from the time:

The letter the Chief Detective Superintendent in charge of the police investigation into mother and baby deaths at Morecambe Bay sent to @CollegeofPolice relating to Smiths appointment.

5/...
Comments from the new CE:

“This reflected a culture at the NMC at that time that prioritised process over people. When concerns were raised with us about our approach, we acted defensively and dismissed those concerns. That is frankly unacceptable”

To finish on something I only recently found out about. One of the criticisms I had of the NMC was finding out that I had been closely monitored by them, including setting up ‘google alerts’ - this is what the PSA report wrote about it:

8/...
Only through a recent Subject Access Request (under the new leadership at the NMC) was it revealed that Smith herself had set up this google alert (despite previously promises that all emails have been honestly disclosed).

9/...
The culture of the NMC under Smith‘s leadership been been evidenced and laid bare... a shameful record that put ‘process above people’ and as a consequence, put lives at risk.

‘6 very successful years’ - make your own minds up.
