Being an actual Independent, Fundamental Baptist takes more than going to your favorite preachers college, putting IFB on your sign, and doing your best impression of your favorite campmeeting preachers. 1/8
There’s real doctrine at stake here, and the implications of these words have ramifications for real people. If you want people to take you serious, know what the words mean and practice them. 2/8
If every time someone criticizes the IFB as a movement, you get defensive and sensitive, you prove that you’re not actually “independent.” 3/8
When you allow Bible colleges or the opinions or pressures from other pastors and ministries change the way you do ministry, you’re not actually independent. 4/8
When you spend the vast majority of pulpit time talking about secondary issues and subjects not addressed in scripture, you prove you’re not fundamental. 5/8
And when the pastor has zero accountability, is never questioned, and individuals in the church aren’t allowed to be different in secondary practices of Christian life, then you don’t believe in soul liberty. You’re not a Baptist. 6/8
You may have a nice long line of preachers, colleges, and systems who taught you to act this way. But it’s not Baptist doctrine, and you certainly didn’t get it from scripture. 7/8
