Refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants do not owe you, the UK government or the economy anything. Their human rights are not dependent on whether they can or do work, contribute to the economy, are good people or need to prove themselves worthy of safety and refuge.
It is racist, classist and xenophobic to use the argument that there are many excellent nurses, doctors and front line workers that are saving British lives and wouldn& #39;t have been able to do so if they weren& #39;t granted the & #39;kindness& #39; of the UK letting them stay. That is toxic!
Every single person has the right to flee from danger, move to another country and move freely without needing to justify their suffering. Categorising whether people should be saved from boats and allowed to stay in the UK based on their potential worth is a dangerous sentiment.
This also ties into a toxic narrative that people& #39;s worth and lives are based on what they can achieve. This has deep ableist roots and interlocks with classism and the stereotype of the & #39;benefit scrounger& #39;. These narratives thrive on capitalism and aim to dehumanise people.
If you think that it& #39;s okay to leave people to die on boats trying to desperately seek safety because they& #39;re going to steal your jobs, your benefits, houses and leech off of the system then quite frankly, you& #39;re fucked up.
