clexa oomfs pls look away. i’m sorry but i’ve gotta say it: the entire trajectory of the story changed after lexa’s death and every single mention of her after that was jason’s way of baiting or placating her fans. all at the expense of bellarke (& clarke as an individual).
and THAT’S my issue with clexa. believe it or not but i actually used to ship it back when lexa was alive, but the story (which i personally thought had a decent narrative structure even if it ended tragically) wasn’t allowed to end organically. it wasn’t allowed to end at all.
i’ve seen interviews where jason said he’d learned a lesson and understood what his audience was saying but honestly? no he fucking didn’t. the problems with lexa’s death were greater than the character, but instead of engaging with that he utilised her as a cheap bandaid.
if he’d really learned his lesson from the backlash he received after lexa’s death, he would’ve focused more attention on the other queer characters in his story & given them more depth and attention. but no.
instead, he constantly name-dropped lexa, added an ooc “i love you” in post-production, and repeatedly reduced clarke’s character in favour of propping up lexa. it was lazy and frankly it didn’t make sense when other, more important characters to clarke existed (like wells).
lexa was never intended to be this important to the narrative. almost their entire story was retconned. now, i have my own issues with lazy/unrealistic wlw rep but if others are content with it that’s their prerogative. but can we at least, finally, acknowledge that’s what it is?
