I live in a small community in the desert. We have a nextdoor instance to keep each other posted on safety issues, fires, weather. I had to quit last week after three male neighbors, one of them is super into guns, threatened me for posting Utah coronavirus data.
I should mention I’ve been posting daily Utah coronavirus data from our state health authorities since March. I only post the numbers and context, I don’t politicize. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been around 1000 or more cases a day. Dudes are wound up and ready to kill.
There’s only like 700 people in the community. It’s a big damn deal. Anyway I nuked my account and reported the guys threatening comments, others did also. no response from platform. Nextdoor could have quite a problem on its hands, if political violence escalates.
Panic peddling gentile is what the neighbor called me. He’s a licensed security guard and presumably has plenty weapons. Listen there’s a lot of weirdos with intense pasts, LEOs, FBI, you name it, who come out here to be left alone. Seriously. We usually don’t threaten each other
The dudes who threatened me are in the majority here among white dudes, I speak of Utah in general not my own community. They are in the majority, meaning people here identify with denial. Denial of coronavirus is very normal here.
