Listened to the whole 2 minutes and Ronny Jackson gets everything wrong except the zinc and vit D (and you would absolutely not use nebulized steroids for an asymptomatic person either...) https://twitter.com/newsmax/status/1312055416990429194
He needs to stop getting his medical info from Ben Carson and the MyPillow guy and start listening to Dan Griffin’s clinical updates every Sunday morning on TWiV. https://www.microbe.tv/twiv/twiv-667/
Tomorrow Dr. Griffin promised to cover the latest news on vitamin D
A little review: COVID has several stages. Starting at when you first exhibit symptoms, week 1 is the “viral” stage. This is generally when virus titres are highest and you are most infectious. Antivirals like mAbs and remdesivir work best here.
...doesn’t hurt to have normal vit D and zinc levels. The viral stage is characterized by typical (variable) cold symptoms (cough, sniffles, sore throat, fever). Your innate immune system is working on killing the virus while the adaptive immune system is ramping up.
Week 2 most symptomatic people get better. But if you are still sick, this begins the “hyperimmune” stage. Your own immune system trying to destroy the virus does a lot of the damage here. Pneumonia, increasing O2 requirement, maybe need to go to the hospital.
Proning, supplemental O2/breathing support, and steroids are often used for this stage.
Week 3 starts the hypercoaguable stage, the clotting system seems to go haywire which can lead to both clots (strokes, ischemic limbs, pulmonary embolisms) and bleeds. I haven’t seen data yet but standard treatment afaik is anti-coagulation based on labs/clinical picture.
(Trump is currently on an aspirin)
Illness can progress faster or a little slower, and there are reports of asymptomatic people having sudden blood clots as their first sign of being infected in the past, but in general the sicker people are sicker and proceed through the stages
Week 3 is where people generally start dying
Week 4-6 is when you can get secondary infections if you are still sick. This is also when the weird manifestations in young people tend to occur, when my kids got COVID toes other kids have MSIS. This is when I had a bunch of hair fall out (it grew back)
COVID can also have a long “tail” characterized by symptoms like weakness, fatigue, cognitive fog, ongoing fevers, and POTS. These can go on for months and might continue chronically as ME/CFS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postural_orthostatic_tachycardia_syndrome
Just some things to keep in mind as we watch what happens with the White House...if we hear Trump is put on supplemental O2 and steroids, for example, concerns go up that the hyperimmune stage is serious.
