They are actually though just a lobbying force, perhaps with idealistic goals, but no power to compel or prevent anything. The #UN itself has little power to compel conflicting sides, even though it is the body of international law and governance.
Without troops though, it is nothing as was the case in Rwanda. The #ICG is much less than this.

If they use one side’s resources, and treat them as objective, they may be misleading the public debate. This is out of laziness as opposed to malevolence, which is also a common failure of journalism
The #ICG has no mandate really. It's made up of many former security and government officials at the senior level, but it does not actually have a mandate from anyone. It's goals are worthy, but because it has now power, it can only lobby.
Also, because it has not enough staff, it is spread to thin, an seems to be more of a western tea drinking circle than hard nosed analysists.
Because of this, the lack of expertise, and mandate, they may be interfering with actual governing bodies work, like the #UN and #AU.

Reiterating, but the group considers itself impartial. While this may be true, this doesn't make them objective.
The #ICG needs to recognize that the economic needs of #Egypt do not rival the survival and development needs of #Ethiopia.

#Egypt’s wanton threats of violence make it the bad actor in this dispute, not #Ethiopia’s attempt to feed and industrialize itself. At the same time, the evidence shows these fears are radically misplaced.
As for our #Sudanese neighbors, they probably wish there were a few emergency reservoirs between #GERD and Khartoum right now, given how much damage increased rainfall has done to them.
The #GERD, from a security perspective, will have a net stabilizing effect on the region, by controlling flooding, and empowering some of the poorest people on the planet.
The #ICG, like others should broaden its view from a narrow lens of the fears of the #Egyptian power elite and look beyond to the needs of the broader #Nilebasin. With proper environmental stewardship, everyone wins.
