/ Let's say for a moment that a certain Well Known Person decides, despite knowing the risks, that driving drunk makes them look cool. They use their public platform to promote it, mock people who don't, encourage those around them to take to the roads sloshed.
/ It catches on! People think they're being rebels and asserting their freedoms and suddenly it becomes a thing more and more people do. They act like people who don't are squares who have no right to judge them. It divides families and friends.
/ Predictably accidents skyrocket. Drunk drivers are killed. Their family members are killed. Other people on the road are killed. Pedestrians are killed. Hospital numbers skyrocket to the degree that beds are scarce & staff have to work overtime. People are afraid to leave home
/ Despite the deaths, despite the people with potentially lifelong injuries, Well Known Person doubles down. They minimize the risks, act like people who are against it are cowards, and spread misinformation to support their 'cause'.
/ People storm town hall meetings screaming about their liberty being taken away, film themselves pulling stupid drunk stunts in stores, and spread rumors against people who say drinking and driving is harmful.
/ The inevitable happens, and Well Known Person is in an accident involving several people who support and enable them. Their remaining supporters expect that there will be thoughts and prayers for their recovery, without acknowledging Well Known Person's role in the mess.
/ At this point the death toll has climbed to hundreds of thousands, with countless more impacted. The economy is suffering from it. The rest of the world is wondering what kind of idiots celebrate drunk driving when it is hurting everyone.
/ Here's the question: do you feel bad for this person?

Allow me to answer. I sure don't. I feel bad for the kids and parents and grandparents and siblings and hospital workers who suffered through no fault of their own. I feel bad for the people afraid to leave home.
/ That person did what they did knowing they were hurting others & their own actions led to the consequences they are experiencing. Not a perfect analogy by any stretch, mainly because the real Well Known Person has caused so much more damage and is so much worse. Just a thought
