Because everything is terrible I'm going to do a thread of music from one of my favorite 90s bands that you've almost certainly never heard of unless you lived in Chicago in the early 90s (like I did), The Coctails. They were wonderfully weird.
Their live shows were a trip. They had a theremin, a banjo, electric guitars, a vibraphone, and horns. And all the band members played all of the instruments. They would switch up between every song. I think I was at this particular show.
In one show they would veer between grunge mumblecore kind of stuff like this.
To goofy sendups of early 60's moptop pop.
Next song would be a mixture of 50s lounge music and Klezmer sax.
Next would come an earnest ballad with standard rock band instrumentation.
Then an upbeat rocker with a New Wave or post-punk kind of feel.
Then we'd go back into a klezmer/punk song about an annoying driver.
I was always partial to their slower, more contemplative and atmospheric instrumentals, like this.
Or this.
