Trump's physicians are being fairly aggressive with the drugs but they are still experimental treatments. There's only the barest of data out there on Regeneron's antibody cocktail; it's positive but very, very far from definitive. (1/)
Remdesivir is in relatively wide use but has been linked to kidney problems, which the European Medicines Agency said today it is investigating. The drug has been shown to speed recovery time for hospitalized patients, but it's not clear whether it reduces risk of death. (2/)
Neither of these drugs has received FDA approval; remdesivir has gotten an emergency use authorization, which is a lower bar. Regeneron's antibody cocktail is still in clinical trials and hasn't been authorized, even on an emergency basis, for wider use. (3/)
In short: they're throwing lots of stuff at him, and it might help him, but it also carries risks that aren't fully understood. (4/)
