As a creative I have been interested in a service that would allow me to schedule my posts ahead of time so that I could reduce my screen time and engagement (every time I take social media breaks they are for months at a time and would interrupt my post routine) (thread)
I found it alarming that your account can be suspended for being subscribed to a service that does this and no platform has real permission to do it as it is considered outside of "instagram's community guidelines" and policy
This did not discourage me from calculating a plan to still post my content without disturbing my peace because I value real world balance just as much as my budding creative career so what really hurt my feelings was
I realized even as producers of content on these platforms our attention is still the product so why would I (tech company) let you (product) buy into a service that would cut you and your followers (product) out from spending as much screen time as possible with me (ad revenue)
Anyone who has followed me long enough knows I have such a love/hate relationship with social media and I use to detail more resources and perspectives on my youtube but for everybody out there thats side eyeing inefficient algorithms and way too personal ad suggestions, me too
Also I would love to suggest this book I have called Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport that has great info on intentional social media use, also would suggest looking into initiatives rallying behind ethical design and also look into social dilemma on netflix
