I thought the BTS remix is cool & poetic. The idea is for the type to reflect the conflict the lyrics speak of while also being on brand to represent the collaboration style of all the artists. Like music, color choice and type vibes can convey emotion across language barriers.

I really dig on using a curated & meaningful color palette combined w/ bold sharp type. the type is inspired by Suga & Jhope’s verses which speak about love as something firey but collapsing. The type we see is very structured on a grid, but it’s breaking the grid & warping out.

Henri Matisse’s cut outs are another inspo. Matisse conveyed a lot of emotion with a minimal color palette and large shapes. He described his technique as ‘painting with scissors’ and this resonates with vibe of SAVAGE LOVE where your heart is shredded but you can’t walk away

I think that color and intent are really important.

Both the cover art and the lyric video show these feelings via the repetition of color, slicing and warping— how a hot love burns, cuts, fades and you can’t look away

The typefaces used were used because of their look and qualities.

A mix of organic and technical to reflect the sound contrasts.

The main type is Balboa Extra Black. The two secondary are Acier BAT & FF Eureka Mono Pro.

The Korean type is really the MOST important…

Seol Sans is a really cool font that was created by a team of designers from Korea, Switzerland & Tokyo.

Also it’s a humanist font (see my old thread about PERSONA for more on that ;)

The title type is warped in a mechanical way with Illustrator, not analog. It makes the type feel sharp and unpredictable like the collapsing sandcastle in the lyrics.

The repetition vibes within the song that are reflected with the use of secondary type. ‘remix’ is repeated 9 times, once for each artist while the laxed siren beat is repeated 7x to represent the BTS members’ mix. AND it keeps it in-universe w the Dynamite Era aesthetic.

Blue & Red/Orange - maybe this is the color of the waves & the fire and the secondary type in black being the chars of what’s left. (( my own theory hah ))

It’s pretty minimal, but that’s what I like about minimal design is this: you have room to imagine and fill it with your feelings and emotions- there’s room for you to dream and theorize
