So I’m trying to watch horror movies all month for spooky szn:
I started with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, great movie! I would’ve loved to be alive when this came out and changed the game of cinema.
Now I’m watching Urban Legend which I’ve already seen. When you think of great 90s slasher flicks, Urban Legend is part of the holy trinity.
I'm watching a bunch of horror movie trailers. This month is going to be filled with childhood nostalgia and critical favorites.
Black Christmas (2006) is the next one. I blame Harvey fucking Weinstein for this trash movie but it brings back many memories so guilty pleasure for sure.
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is next. Let’s put some respect on the (horror) movie that started it all for me. SMG 😍. Another one that’s part of the 90s slacker flicks holy trinity.
#JusticeforMax poor guy was working a humble job, got his day ruined by Barry, and then got murdered... for no reason.
So we are going back in time to some classic slashers with FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980). I hope they make an iconic 13th Friday film bc they have not been that good for a while.
So yesterday I actually watched SCREAM, my all time favorite horror movie! I absolutely love this film from start to finish and I hate that it doesn't get the respect it deserves. Unfortunately, its satirical nature is a little too smart for its kind.
Plus, I really want to know a better opening to a horror movie...I'll wait.
I also watched GHOST SHIP for nostalgic purposes, it was meh but I notice they killed off the Latino first and then made the black guy look like a cheater & killed him off second. That's not the move.
I watched SPIRAL yesterday, a shudder original: trash, not a good movie. Horrible, corny ass writing, and terrible acting. Th gay couple storyline made it interesting to watch and just the LGBTQIA undertones salvaged it for the most part but it was still not a good movie. 🏳️‍🌈
Yesterday I watched a classic horror movie, ROSEMARY'S BABY. I really liked it. I hate that most of these classic movies, I know the premise to them so it doesn't feel like I'm watching something new, it just feels like I'm completing a story I already knew. Still good though!
Today I semi-watched THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (seen it like 3 times in the last six months). I absolutely love this movie. It truly is our generation's own Scream.
I went ahead and watched BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974) for the very first time. I absolutely loved it. Scary movies in the 70's were something else. I so totally think this one is far FAR more supreme than both its mediocre remakes, both.
And today’s movie was THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972), first time watching this. I actually enjoyed the remake but I will say it was definitely tame compared to the original. I’m telling you guys, 70s horror films were a different breed.
I just realized I’m two movies behind. Omg 😱
So to catch up I just finished watching PROM NIGHT (1980). Once again I only watched the really awful remake (slasher movies should not be PG13) but the old one with Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis was amazing. And I love a good classic chase scene.
I watched UPGRADE today and it was not the typical horror movie that you’d expect, but it’s still considered part of the genre. I thought it was great!
Currently watching A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984). Can you all tell that I’m obsessed with Wes Craven (rip). Absolutely adore that man’s mind.
I also watched SCREAM 2 (1997), like I said, I clearly have an obsession with Craven's work. I actually really enjoy this sequel despite all its flaws.
and PSYCHO (1960), the most classic horror movie in my eyes. I mean this movie is highly slept on and iconically everyone seems to know the infamous shower scene.
I woke up and watched SCREAM 3 (2000). Probably the worst of all four but still very funny and campy. Parker Posey saved this movie!
I also watched THE HUNT (2020). I read some negative reviews about it but honestly it was pretty funny, very politically charged, and I love Betty Gilpin!
Finished the series today by watching SCREAM 4 (2011), the first one I got to see in theaters. I actually love this one on the same level as 2 with a better ending. And this is the movie where I became a huge Emma Roberts stan .
SUSPIRIA (2018) was the epitome of an arthouse horror film (considering it was made by the same guy who did CMBYN), but I love these kinds of scary movies. The terror comes from the underlying subtext of the movie and Suspiria was no exception. I def plan on watching the original
I have been slacking but I got a couple of days to catch up. Currently watching the original MY BLOODY VALENTINE (1981), another classic slasher that got the remake treatment. They are both good in their own way. But yet again, both are generic slasher flicks.
Decided to move up a couple of years and watch THE CRAFT (1996) for nostalgic purposes but who doesn't love to see these badass witches. Love them dearly. #idols
I did the unthinkable. I rewatched HEREDITARY. Wow, stunning film. This movie is going to be recognized as one of the greatest horror films of all times. Toni Collette was Robbed an Oscar for this role.
I'm watching ALIEN after years of not seeing it, I can't even remember if I ever saw it. But what an Iconic film. I totally loved it and I'm not honestly that into sci-fi but I love a good game-changing horror film.
Watching GHOST STORIES because @ryanhollinger claimed it as his favorite horror movie of 2018. I gotta say, it’s a good one. Not as good as Hereditary but I can see why it was a good horror movie. Definitely recommend.
