To all the reporters gathering at Walter Reed to report on this historic moment, remember this. Just down the street is the best shoe and leather repair shop in the country, if not the world. Fortuna's Shoe Repair, since 1942, our work is craftsmanship. http://www.fortunas.com .
Whoa!! This thing blew up. This is amazing!! I never expected this, but need to correct/clarify a few points. First, I am a Fortuna, not Fortuna's itself. The Store is still run by my kickass, 76-year-old mother, Terry Fortuna. A titan of the American shoe repair industry.
Her reaction to all this was to tell me Fortuna's was founded in 1943, not 1942. Here's a great, if outdated, rundown of its history for anyone interested. https://bit.ly/33r9NHr . As for the rest of this thread, it's coming from Fortuna's, not me personally.
1) Fortuna's will always support shoe-leather journalism. In consideration of the moment, any journalist who presents valid press credentials will get 10% off any repair through the rest of October. We can fix anything: shoes, purses, coats, luggage. Let us take a look.
2) Fortuna's is very COVID conscious. We offer curbside pickup and drop-off, always wear our masks, and limit the number of people in the store to two at a time. We wish everyone affected, without exception, a speedy and full recovery to full health and happiness.
3) Not local to Bethesda? No problem! You can send us your work no matter where you are. There's a form on the website ( http://fortunas.com ). Fill it out, send it to us along with your items (pic of your press badge if you have it), we'll take care of the rest.
4) Like many small businesses across the country, COVID has had an enormous impact on our bottom-line. However, we'd request any money you'd like to send us to instead go to @BethesdaCares or your favorite charity. That said, we'll take all the work we can get.
5) Fortuna's has its own Twitter account, @fortunas4repair. We also have a great Facebook page ( https://bit.ly/3nhbP4T ). Follow us there or here, and remember "We Save Soles." #BLM #wearyourmask #walterreed #scienceisreal #womensrightsarehumanrights #nohumanbeingisillegal
6) One last thing. Fortuna's would also like to extend the 10% discount to members of the Secret Service, employees of Walter Reed and NIH, and all first responders. You're always on your feet for all of us, might as well look good and be comfortable.
