This is your friendly reminder to *please* check in with a 1st year in your lab or program. Send a text. Introduce yourself. 9/10 times, they want to connect & are probably lonely. And NO, it's not weird even if you don't know them very well. 1/

Ya'll. These folx have likely moved hours away from friends & family, to sit alone in an apartment, to take classes and experience ALL that goes along with 1st year DURING A PANDEMIC. 1st year sucks anyways. But now? I can't even imagine the stress, loneliness, and adjustment.

It's time to step up. We are all struggling. We are all burnt out. We all feel existential dread as we approach Nov. 3rd. We are all human. And we can provide grad school support & insight that no one else in their life can right now. Send that text. Make their day. Step UP.
