Voting has opened in the 2020 New Zealand General Election.
So I thought I would do a thread about some simple points. New Zealand makes it pretty easy to vote, but there are some reminders that may help
1. You can check for election day voting places and advance voting places at https://vote.nz/map/index.html .
Advance voting places open on different hours on different days, some on particular days only, so checking can be helpful.
2. You do not need ID to vote. You do not need ID to advance vote. You do not need ID to special vote. You do not need ID to enrol to vote. Not photo ID, not any ID. Not in New Zealand, not overseas. Never. You also do not need your Easy Vote card.
3. Your Easy Vote card is nice to have, though! The numbers on it are the page and line in the printed electoral roll where your name appears. That will make finding your name to cross it off quicker, and you won't have to spell out your name or remember your address!
4. If your name is not on the printed electoral roll, you will need to cast a special vote. You can enrol to vote at the same time if necessary, and this year, even on election day itself. But if this is you, and you can advance vote during a less busy time, that could be good.
5. The map link for (advance and election day) voting places bunged, but you get to it from here and also enrol etc. http://Vote.nz
6. You can vote at any voting place in New Zealand. This applies to both the general electorates and the Māori electoates. Of course, it's faster if you vote in a voting place in your electorate, as you won't need to cast a special vote.
