EVERYTHING WRONG WITH FEMALE RAP IN 2020: A THREAD
Lets start with PAYOLA. It’s well known that a certain female rapper that won’t be named in today’s thread or any thread ever for that matter, pays for radio play and streams for her music. 2020 has seen a huge spike in pay for play not only for this artist but for artist-
across the board. Payola is and will continue to be a plague in not only female rap but in the music industry as a whole until stronger laws against it are made.

P.S. : The woman that won’t be named embodies everything wrong with female rap and if you stan her I pity you.
Let’s talk about VISUALS: This year the conversation around female rap has not been about who has the most bars or who has the best flow or even who can make a better song but more so about who looks the best in their videos or “how controversial can we make this video?”
The conversation is no longer about lyricism but about pussy popping, colorful wigs, celebrity cameos and catchy hooks for TikTok. The song drops with the video to garner hype, streams, views and controversy. This is done to trick people into watching a video they wouldn’t have-
otherwise.
BARS AND FLOW : It’s really just nonexistent. The rappers most guilty of delivering subpar bars in 2020 are The City girls, Megan and ***** *. These girls specifically have trouble finding topics that don’t relate to sex, their pussy or robbing men. This isn’t shade just facts.
As far as flow, most girls, when they can catch the beat, sound decent. The issue I and many others have, is that for a lot of them the flow is the same on every song. With no change in cadence or tone. Everything that was explained above makes for a very repetitive year of-
music.
THE GIRLS DOING IT RIGHT : Time and time again Doja Cat just delivers. From her fun and clever bars to her quick and witty flow. It honestly reminds me of the queen at the beginning of her career. She’s colorful in her tone and brings something different to every track she drops.
As far as her live performances she’s had some of the best for ANY artist in 2020. She also subtly paid tribute to Nicki in one performance.
She is THE next generation of female rap and in my opinion the current princess of rap.
Flo Milli has seen a recent spike in popularity this year with her Beef Flomix. Some might consider her underwhelming while others find her extremely talented. But one thing that can’t be denied is that she does grow on you, like with her signature catchphrase “Flo Milli Shit!”
which she had a lot of people reciting this year. She is definitely one to keep your eye on as we head into 2021.
Now obviously I couldn’t do a thread about Female Rap and not include a segment about the Queen. Nicki, (AKA the blueprint) at the beginning of the year showed the girls how to do it and do it flawlessly. She delivered bars/flow and a cute visual with 6ix9ine and then went on-
hiatus and is still making headlines all without saying a word. I could say much more about this lady but let’s just say, she revived female rap... but at what cost?
IN CONCLUSION: Overall 2020 has been a fun year for rap. Yet it has also been very disappointing for fans of actual rap music. Hopefully in 2021 we see more attention drawn to women’s lyricism, raw talent and creativity rather than their pussy and their fashion. If this thread-
offended you, tell your fav to step their cookies up because they’re currently crumbling 😘.
