This afternoon I spent 40 minutes speaking with a fellow veterinary professional who couldn't stop crying because of the horrible things being said about her work place online that are based on half truths and full lies.
In case you are thinking of picking up your pitch fork and joining the virtual lynch mob when you see "heartless vet" stories online ... rarely is anyone involved actually heartless.

They are real people, with real feelings, and I doubt you know even half of the true story.
My profession is so plagued with suicide there are industry sponsored programs on how to help your team cope with losing a fellow team member to suicide.
I know the people who need to think on this will not read these tweets, or will not recognize their own heartlessness...

..but I had to say something. My heart breaks for my colleagues who become the focus of public outcry, because I have been in their shoes.
You demand more and better veterinary care, while also burning my profession to the ground.

You demand we be available to you when and how and where YOU want, at an ignorantly perceived "reasonable price", without acknowledging we are people to.
We are people with families, with lives, with struggles, with needs.

If we are not perfect in your eyes, by your outrageous standards, you crucify us for any perceived misstep....

...and then cry out when you need us and we are no longer there.
That's the real ending.

Attacking veterinary teams, accusing them of being in it for the money, calling them heartless, will not have them walk away and replaced with "someone who cares".

It will just make them walk away.

Then there is no one.
And then, those of us who care so much we cannot bring ourselves to walk away...

...we break under the pressure. We are only human.

I am not going to tolerant ignorant vet bashing, or mob mentality cyber bullying. My job is hard enough.
I will ALWAYS treat my patients with care and advocate for what they need.

I will NOT tolerate owners who disrespect me, my team, or my colleagues.

Take that how you will. My profession puts up with far more abuse than we should, and it needs to change.
