New path through Journey Through Twin Peaks THREAD

PART ONE: New Runway (creating an extensive non-Journey backlog to continue my weekly public and monthly patron obligations through June 2021)

This approach will keep me from falling behind/pausing/moving steps around etc.
The "new runway" is part of a larger process that can be seen in full here: https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1312089678816911368?s=20
1A-R) re-edit reviews, record outros & create cross-posts for 18 public podcasts through June (using previously recorded patron podcast reviews so the process will be quicker than it seems)
2A-M) record, edit & create show notes for 8 Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcasts through June (on episodes 21 - 28)

Before recording the episodes individually I will be outlining them by category (context, stats, subplots etc) across episodes, so I'll offer updates for that too.
3A-X) edit 8 main patron podcasts through June

To streamline the process, these will be created entirely by category: Twin Peaks Cinema, Opening the Archive, and the rest (including Twin Peaks Reflections) - hence the number of substeps.
4A-M) create viewing diary for Mad Men season 5 (13 episodes) to keep up weekly posts through June

(the season 4 diary is already written and will begin publishing in November)
5) create one Citizen Kane video essay to be published on 80th anniversary in May 2021

(this revives a dormant project begun in 2016; other videos will follow Journey's completion)
potential 6A-?) if any weekly gaps remain through June, create posts to fill them
potential 7A-?) if it is not yet December 1, work on random ongoing projects like the Twin Peaks character series, a Mad Men season 6 viewing diary, or more Citizen Kane videos, but as soon as it's December they must be set aside until Journey is complete
When these steps are concluded - I will update each step/sub-step in this thread as they go - I will start researching, organizing, and otherwise preparing for the Part 6 videos of Journey Through Twin Peaks.
I am revising and extending this part of the schedule - I will now spend the early months of winter creating a backlog to take my through September (rather than June) 2021. This will push back the Part 6 videos but also give me more of a cushion to focus on them once I do.
And rather than give myself until December 1 to work on other random projects if I'm finished with the earlier steps (I won't even be close to *starting* those earlier steps on December 1), February 1 will be the new cut-off point for that.
Update: finished 1A, the public podcast on Training Day. I had to jump into this before finishing the “catch-up” phase of this schedule, because I missed a deadline, making this essentially “catch-up” too. I’ll be working on steps 1, 2, and 3 simultaneously this weekend.
Also, because I am adding to the amount of podcasts I’m recording ahead of time for backlog this winter, I will run out of letters for step 2. Guess I will have to dip into α β γ after “z” 😂
Update: finished 3A, Twin Peaks Cinema for my November patron podcast, the 70s anime feature Belladonna of Sadness...
Update: finished 3B, the patron podcast's Opening the Archive reading series for my review of The Devil's Bride (which shares a witchcraft theme with Belladonna of Sadness)...
Update: finished 3C, the rest of November's main patron podcast including Twin Peaks Reflections on Norma and her mother. Now onto this month's Lost in Twin Peaks episode coverage...
Update: finished 2A (and parts of other steps), completing my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast for episode 21...
Update: finished 1B, the public podcast on Parasite, Joker, The Irishman, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which now includes a late 2020 coda for the commentary recorded earlier this year...
Update: finished 1C, re-editing & cross-posting First Reformed for an early December public podcast. From now on these substeps are just about preparing the old material; the new intro/outros etc will be created days before publication in each case so they can have fresh updates.
Update: finished 1D, re-editing & cross-posting River's Edge for a mid-December public podcast.
Now I am far enough ahead that I can return to the normal order, which resumes here: https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1330272954786205701?s=19
Update: finished 1E, re-editing and cross-posting a discussion of Storyville for my public podcast. I realized this would be a better tie-in this week since my Frost video is coming soon. Now back to *that* part of the schedule (linked in the tweet above)...
Update: finished 2B (and parts of other steps), completing my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast for episode 22 a couple days ago, just in time for the end of the month. Now to catch up with the main podcast episode for December before returning to the Journey video...
Update: finished 3D, Twin Peaks Cinema for my belated December patron podcast on Rashomon...
Update: finished 3E, Opening the Archive for my belated patron podcast. One more podcast session to go and then it’s back to Journey Through Twin Peaks, hopefully straight through till the Frost video is done...
Update: finished 3F, the rest of my belated patron podcast for December (including Twin Peaks Reflections for the month). So now it's back to the Mark Frost video. I am hoping I can finish it by next Friday in time for the next screenshot round-up. We shall see.
Update (very, very belated): way back in November I finished 6A, a status update following the election. I'm mentioning this now because I'm going to have to do another random post this Friday, as no video or podcast (or second Journey screenshot collection) will be ready.
I finished another part of the Frost video, but now I'm right back to focusing on podcasts so that I can have few distractions from Journey next week and the week after. https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1346898642150567936?s=20
Here's the plan. My goal will be creating a Lost in Twin Peaks entry for the Josie drawer pull episode, re-editing two patron film reviews for public consumption in January (not sure which ones yet), plus a random post - maybe a visual tribute or a status update - on Friday.
Depending how long that takes, maybe if that work goes into next week & definitely if it goes longer than a week, I may shift right into the main episode of my January patron podcast and get that done too though it would be a more pared-down version of the episode than planned.
On the other hand, if that first batch of work is finished this weekend, I will probably go right back to work on the Mark Frost video and hopefully complete it by either January 19 or 22 so that I can cross-post something then (either the full Part 5 line-up or screenshots).
Update: finished 6B, a visual tribute to 2 adaptations of Great Expectations - a random idea pulled together yesterday because no podcasts or videos were ready this week.
Update: finished 2C (and parts of other steps) by finishing my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast for episode 23 yesterday. Ended up being a 2-parter to cap off the midseason section.
Update: finished 1F, re-editing and cross-posting a short patron episode on Spirited Away for my public podcast. This wraps the diversion from my Frost video; I won't consider another such break until week after next. Hope I can finally wrap the video within that time frame...
Update: finished 6C, a random status update to fulfill the weekly post (needed because I accidentally published a big kickoff piece for a series that won’t begin for another year 😣). Of course, this isn’t what I’ve primarily been working on since the last update 10 days ago...
Although I my attention has been more divided than I’d like, most of my online work time was spent gathering images and clips for both the sports books and Secret History sequences. So far with the Frost chapter, I’ve mostly created each sequence - start to finish - in isolation.
In this case, however, I am gathering all of the raw material for everything; once I start having updates to offer on the cutting again, they will probably come pretty quickly.
Also, btw, if you’re somehow navigating back and forth between these threads, here’s one update that was initially lost in all the cross-links. I’ll be back with more updates soon - maybe by the end of the weekend (fingers crossed)... https://twitter.com/journeypeaks/status/1349095161184333825
Update: finished 3G, the Twin Peaks Cinema section of my January patron podcast, on Rebel Without a Cause. Yet again I am postponing the big patron episode (with capsules, politics, feedback etc and a review of Kings Row) because the video ate up too much time this month...
Update: finished 3H, the Opening the Archive section of my January patron podcast - reading my 2008 review of In a Lonely Place. Everything else on the episode has been recorded and edited, so just a matter of setting up the image, show notes, and cross-post at this point.
Update: finished 3I, the rest of my January patron podcast's main episode. Now everything is in place to finish my Frost video during the next week and a half, before I need to concern myself with another podcast.
The Frost video resumes here: https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1356311431671668737?s=20. Should be the final push for catch-up work, so that when I'm back on this "Runway" thread, I'm back on it for good.
Update: finished 6C, checking and scheduling my entire Mad Men viewing diary for season 4 (written last year) for this spring. New entries will go up every Monday starting in mid-March, ensuring at least one weekly post on the site.
Update: finished 1G, another public podcast to keep up with my every-other-week schedule, in this case repackaging my patron episode on Upstream Color.
Update: finished 2D, outlining the character stats section for every upcoming Lost in Twin Peaks podcast, including updates to previously released episodes. I really fell down the rabbit hole on this one, but it’s done.
Update: finished 2E, collecting excerpts from my previous work to share as archive reading/clips on all upcoming Lost in Twin Peaks episodes (as well as updates to the already-covered season 3 episodes).
Update: finished 2F, distributing excerpts from my media, Usenet, and dugpa forum commentary round-ups for the upcoming Lost in Twin Peaks episodes. (This quote isn't in there though other parts of the article which contains it will be.)
Update: finished 1H, my public podcast episode highlighting Lost in Twin Peaks with samples from that patron podcast.
Update: finished 1I, re-packaging my discussion of The Lobster for my next public podcast.
Update: finished 2D, outlining the narrative sections (top storyline, locations, scenes organized by subplot, and investigative breakdown) for every upcoming Lost in Twin Peaks podcast. Sinultaneously I've been prepping my long-delayed listener feedback patron podcast...
Due to a belated patron podcast, l have some work to finish in both the Catch-Up section and this one. I'll be bouncing back and forth between the two until hopefully getting back on a straightforward schedule again soon. For now the thread continues here: https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1370127638505865220?s=19
Update: finished 4A, my review of Mad Men season 5 episode 1 - I jumped ahead to this step due to DVD availability, so it will be intermingled with earlier steps going forward.
Update: finished 3J, reading my archive review of a Lee Atwater documentary for the belated February patron podcast
Update: finished 4B, my review of Mad Men season 5 episode 2 (still jumping ahead due to DVD availability).
Briefly sidestepped to the "catch-up" thread for another long-delayed piece of the puzzle, before returning to this thread for podcast deadlines and other advance steps. https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1372934440297639941?s=20
Update: finished 3K, my Twin Peaks Cinema coverage of Kings Row, another work about the dark secrets of a small town, for the belated February podcast (the rest of the episode is essentially done too, I just need to illustrate & cross-post to finish)...
Update: finished 6D, with nothing else having gone up on the main site this week I offered one more status update to close off the period that began exactly 9 months ago - when I laid out a new schedule and plans to catch up with unfinished work.
The past couple months have been really jumbled even though this new "path to Journey Through Twin Peaks" was meant to clarify and streamline things. Lots of jumping back and forth between different steps for a variety of reasons. Here's what remains before I return to schedule.
Updated: finished 4C, the fourth episode of Mad Men season 4 (technically anyway, it plays like the third because the first two were combined into a double)...
Two notes on this. The historical context sections can wait, as I need to get to the next 2 Lost in Twin Peaks episodes immediately + it was absurd to think I'd finish these by the 25th; I'll be lucky to wrap even the short version of the list by the 31st. https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1372938943176585218?s=20
Update: finished 4D, the fifth episode of Mad Men season 4, and also...
Update: finished 4E, the sixth episode of Mad Men season 4. I've been watching these to keep up with Netflix DVD activity, but I am now about to *finally* catch up with the long-belated February episode of Lost in Twin Peaks just in time for ep. 24's 30th anniversary on Sunday.
Whoops, this should be 2G, I already had a 2D. Moving on... https://twitter.com/journeypeaks/status/1368837139539050496
Update: finished 2H (and parts of other steps) by finally creating my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast for episode 24, long after originally planned (but just in time for the episode’s 30th anniversary). Onto episode 25...
Update: finished 3L, the rest of my belated February patron podcast which was mostly done a few weeks ago but is now cross-posted too. Currently focusing on belated March ones (Lost in Twin Peaks - Ep. 25 is half-recorded & Blue Velvet - Twin Peaks Cinema is underway)...
Update: finished 2I, my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast coverage of ep. 25 (with parts of other steps)...
Where things stand now in catching up with deadlines and long-delayed projects this week (before I can even start building an advance backlog, let alone prepping the next Twin Peaks videos)...
Frankly the Mark Frost video turned into such a beast, swallowing up nearly 3 months rather than the expected week or 2 (after which I found myself working on multiple projects simultaneously for many reasons) that I may just reboot these schedules/threads.
The whole point was supposed to be tracing a clear path from A to Z so to speak but instead it's become a labyrinth because once one thing took too much time everything else had to be juggled (to mix metaphors).
And because I want to premiere my Twin Peaks podcast publicly from this fall to next fall, and finally publish my (now half-decade delayed) Twin Peaks character series throughout 2022, I'm not sure if I should still pursue the next part of Journey first, as originally planned.
It might make more sense to focus on these other projects in 2021 so that as they go up publicly in 2021-22 I have a completely clear path to work on Journey Through Twin Peaks behind the scenes.
I know those videos are what people who follow my work are most eager to see. And they are definitely my favorite projects. But they also aren't quite as restricted by the calendar, and they benefit from percolating for longer. So we'll see.
I will decide on this when I make my YouTube announcement video, which will hopefully be by this weekend. /tangent
Update: forgot to note I finished 1J, the public podcast on Sorry to Bother You, a couple weeks ago...
Update: finished 1K, the public podcast on Blue Velvet...
Update: finished 3M, the Twin Peaks Cinema section of the patron podcast on Blue Velvet, which ended up spinning off a whole discussion of the Blue Velvet Revisited documentary as well. (/fixed - mislabeled the step initially)
Update: finished 2J, my Lost in Twin Peaks patron podcast coverage of ep. 26 (with parts of other steps)...
Update: finished 3N, an extensive archive section on Blue Velvet, including 3 bonus podcasts reading and clipping from previous coverage on my site...
Update: finished 3O, the rest of my belated March patron podcast ("Reflections section & cross-post for this & others from this period). Finally caught-up with all Patreon work...
Update: finished 4F, the eighth episode of Mad Men season 4. Although I started writing my response to the seventh episode first, I haven't written the recap part of that one yet, so this was completed ahead of it...
Update: finished 4G, the seventh episode of Mad Men season 4, started before but finished slightly after the next episode. I watched these two a few weeks ago but caught up with finishing podcasts in the meantime. Now I have one more before finally returning to the other thread.
Update: finished 4H, the ninth episode of Mad Men season 4. That's it for a couple months of jumping ahead to this "Runway" thread. Now back to finally wrapping the two remaining steps of the "Catch-up" material I laid out last fall, before probably rebooting this whole schedule.
Still need to finish some things up before those two last Catch-Up steps. Here is what's in store. I'll keep updating these threads till probably April 30, when I create a new, much more long-lasting, and hopefully more feasible schedule. Podcasts & DVDs will be mixed.
I finished the schedule for the “Path back to Journey Through Twin Peaks” which builds a much bigger backlog before I pursue Part 6. Depending when I finish that backlog, I could have almost an entire year of breathing room to focus on Journey videos again. I’ll discuss here...
...in this thread since that’s where I currently am but of course it will have its own threads in a week or two. The big problem with the approach I laid out last October was that I placed a complex video before more time-sensitive podcasts and it took so long I had to keep...
...pausing and everything fell out of wack. I’ve discussed that already, but with the new schedule I’ve mostly frontloaded time-sensitive podcasts so hopefully that won’t happen again. Here is a brief description of what that very detailed and crowded schedule will look like:
1) Immediate Attention - stuff I need to complete in May/June. This includes 1 video, touching base with my long-dormant Citizen Akane series in time for the 80th anniversary but is otherwise all public/patron podcasts.
2) Summer Backlog - at this point I’ll create roughly 3 months of podcasts to get me to where this thread here was supposed to take me in September. This will probably involve a public/patron interview and my Lost in Twin Peaks episode on Fire Walk With Me.
3) 2021 Backlog - the rest of the year is more crowded as I’m expanding my public podcast output in October (6 a month, though many will still be re-presented Patreon material so, not requiring a ton of prep). Hopefully by the time they’re ready, I’m months ahead of schedule.
4) 2022 Backlog - at this point I will focus on completing one project at a time, starting with finishing my Mad Men diary, then repackaging patron material for public podcasts, then creating new public and patron podcasts, and finally resuming my Twin Peaks character series...
...which was initially going up after Journey Part 6, but it’s been on hold for 5 years so I’m finally going to put it first so it can publish in 2022. I’ll hopefully be in the midst of this (or even done, though unlikely) on New Year’s, with all other work for the year complete.
5) Journey Through Twin Peaks Part 6 - then I will finally be able to just prepare the rest of the videos with ease and little pressure, waiting until all are done to begin presenting them on a weekly basis. Ideally alongside season 3’s 5th anniversary but at least by year’s end.
So that’s what I’ll be unveiling in more detail in a week or two. It’s fifty-six steps in all, with many substeps within that, but hopefully it is as methodical as it is ambitious. First though, gotta wrap these up: https://twitter.com/journeypeaks/status/1384933381910188033
Update: finished 1L, the public podcast on Mark Twain.
This was not on the schedule, but since I've had the Netflix DVD sitting around for a while, I watched & recorded my Twin Peaks Cinema discussion of The Sweet Hereafter, which will not be published until February.
Update: finished 4I, the tenth episode of Mad Men season 4...
Update: finished 4J, the eleventh episode of Mad Men season 4...
Update: finished 4K, the twelfth episode of Mad Men season 4...
Update: finished 4L, the thirteenth and final episode of Mad Men season ***5*** (not season 4, as I've been saying in almost every relevant entry in this thread; argh, too late to fix now...). All that remains is to check over these pieces and I'm done with this step.
Update: finished 6E, a conversation w/ Twin Peaks Unwrapped about favorite Lynch films or episodes which won't run until May.
Update: finished 3P, an extensive archive section on The Straight Story for April's patron podcast...
Update: finished 3Q, my Twin Peaks Cinema discussion of The Straight Story for April's patron podcast...
Update: finished 3R, the rest of my April patron podcast (Reflections section & cross-post). For the rest of this week my focus will be 1) historical context for podcasts on Twin Peaks ep. 27 - 29, FWWM, and s3, 2) (thanks to unexpected Netflix discs) my Mad Men s6 viewing diary.
Update: finished 4M, editing/checking over the Mad Men season 5 viewing diary. It's now fully ready for publication and will run from June to September as soon as the season 4 one is finished.
This completes, out of order, step 4 - the only part of this particular thread that will be finished before I reboot the whole schedule either this week or next. https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1312136861133885440?s=20
Update: finished 1M, a public podcast on the films of 4 more Twin Peaks episode directors (follow-up to an earlier podcast). That may be it for this thread...
That is it for this thread. I'm returning to the one that was originally supposed to be completed first, before things fell totally out of whack, and wrapping things up there before rebooting: https://twitter.com/JourneyPeaks/status/1387763597712007170?s=19
