It doesn't show any real empathy to be kind to sick Trump. People are just conditioned to treat the incredibly selective empathy they have for elites as complete due to their ability to platform themselves/their pain, which isn't afforded to most people who suffer.
There is also the implicit belief that elites, by nature of their social/class position, simply shouldn't have bad things happen to them regardless of whether it is due to their own decisions because it is unnatural. So to make fun of them is taboo
Whether the literal emotional capacity to feel bad for non-elites exists in mainstream political media is debatable but for sure they do not often meaningfully fight to put those stories in front of people consistently
Most people have enough knowledge to look into the mass suffering that goes on globally but strategically do not because it allows for the maintenance of this myth of societal empathy. Then we are only called on to be empathetic for the people who can't be swept under the rug
That's also lowkey why I think a lot of people have an issue with BLM, the fact that they are always protesting forces people to actually show their hands because they can't pretend they don't know since everyone is watching.
At the end of the day, the political media class just wants you to be nice to them and to allow them to pretend that Trump is a threat anomalous to them, one that you are mostly responsible for solving without their help, but also none of that should be grounds to replace them.
Like everything else they produce, it's just clown shit.
