Religion is top-down, science is bottom-up.

Religion is rhetorical, science is dialectic.

Science is necessary for technological innovation.

Religion is necessary for inspiring art, ethics, sensible mating practices etc.

They& #39;re not even interchangeable, both are necessary.
Science is what pushes a society forward, religion is what holds a society together.

They are not dichotomous, because they don& #39;t serve the same functions at the civilizational level.

As long as one does not impede the other, they are harmonious net positive institutions.
