I’ve noticed a British (?) habit of feeling sheepish for celebrating good news, but I never quite understand it. Any announcement is prefaced by an apology. Why? I love hearing people’s good news, their triumphs and successes. Seeing the joy. I mean. Gwan. Big up yourself.
It is usually women apologizing also. Idk - if you’ve worked hard, earned something you really wanted, and you’re bursting with joy about it, it is really that terrible to share your joy?
Neither joy nor sadness are impolite emotions. They don’t have to be muted. They really don’t.
And my theory is: if you are going to announce your joy, don’t apologise for feeling it.
