The Pandavas were gathered in a place called Uplavya.
Yudhisthir asked everyone present there as to how many days they would take to defeat the Kauravas to all the ally warriors like Drupad, Viraat, Kaikeya, Satyaki, Dhrushtdhyamna etc.

Arjuna replied that it was illogical to predict the outcome of the war. But we have so many brave and strong allies that we will definetely win. I can finish the war in a single day if you are asking about my ability.
The son of Ghatokach, Barbarik was listening to all this. He replied to Arjuna that you are insulting all the other brave men by making such a statement. I can finish this war in few seconds with the divine weapons given to me by Sidhambika devi.
All the people were astonished at this. They looked upon Krishna who confirmed Barbarik's statement. He narrated that the strong Barbarik had defeated nine crore demons Called Palaashi in Pataal lok.
But Krishna was eager to know as to what strategy was he going to adopt to complete this feat. To this,Barbarik raised his bow and arrow. He filled the bow with red Bhasm and pulled the arrow. The red ash landed exactly on the that part of the chest where the heart is situated.
The ash was on the chest of all warriors except Krishna and Pandavas. Now Barbarik replied that the red mark would ascertain the location for the second deadly arrow to Pierce and proclaim them dead by his divine arrow.
So there was no need of others to go to Kurukshetra to wage a war.
Everybody was astonished but Krishna cut the neck of Barbarik by his Sudarshan Chakra. Everyone was silent and tears were rolling down from their eyes.

Just then Mata Sidhambika along with her fourteen devi's came there and cleared the situation as to why Krishna had to beheaded Barbarik. Once, when all the devtas had assembled at Meru Parvat, Prithvi mata came to them crying and requested them to reduce her load.
Brahma requested Vishnu to help Prithvi. Vishnu agreed to this,But Yaksharaj Suvarcha couldn't resist himself.He bragged that he would take avtaar to reduce Prithvi's load. Angry Brahma cursed him that he would be killed by Hari(Krishna) in the next avtaar taken for this purpose.
Suvarcha pleaded that he should be given the ability to complete all the task undertaken also his worship him in next birth.
So this was the story of Barbarik's previous birth. But Barbarik's head was made immortal on the request of Devi Sidhambika.

So Krishna took the head and placed it on the peak of a tall mountain as Barbarik had expressed his desire to witness this war. In fact it was Barbarik's head that confirmed that it was Krishna who actually was killing the enemies(not others).
It so happened that after winning the war, Yudhisthir and Arjuna gave all the credit for winning to Krishna. This angered Bhima. Arjuna felt that someone was killing the enemy invisible to him.
They all went to Barbarik as he had witnessed everything. Barbarik confirmed Arjuna's statement.
