My experience with sexism in a professional environment. A short thread.
I have a client who whenever he world receive advice from a female colleague of mine, he would confirm it with me and only when I tell him that the advice given is the same position I hold and is the firm position does he relax.
Deeply rooted sexism has men second guessing advice and opinions simply because it's a woman who has given it. I told him my colleague is highly competent and her advice is not given willy-nilly and he should trust it.
I asked him if he constantly second guesses her because she's a woman and of course he refused. But ever since he was called out about it, the behaviour has stopped.
Sexism must not be tolerated. We have a duty to call it out and stop behavior that perpeuates it.
