Whilst we celebrate gandhi jayanti today. Let's have a look at his contribution towards the Indian freedom struggle.
1. Getting India independence-
Was it Gandhi that got us the independence?
Clement Atlee, PM of Britain during the independence visited India 10 years after, when asked why he was in rush to leave India, here's his answer.

Mountbatten- Gandhi has announced to spend the rest of his life in pakistan,.., it will be a great relief to congress, as I have said ,his influence is largely negative and only directed against vallabhbhai patel.

BR Ambedkar- (interview to BBC, 1955)
As a politician, he (Gandhi) was never a Mahatma. He doesn't deserve that title not even from the point of morality!
Gandhi himself-
" I see it as clearly as I see my finger: British are leaving not because of any strength on our part but because of historical conditions"
Source- S S Gill- Gandhi a sublime failure.
Patrick French-
"From late 1930s onwards, Gandhi became a liability to the freedom movement, V.S. Paul said bluntly that gandhi lived too long !"
If Gandhi really got us freedom, one should ponder how these other countries got freedom at the same time without much of a movement.

2. Quit India Movement
Quit India movement was a collosal failure by all accounts.
Resolution passed 7 Aug 1942
All congressmen arrested for next 3 years on 9 Aug 1942
Movement lasted -3 months.

That tok by all accounts it was more of looting and rioting than any agitation
3. He went to jail.
Sure, but nobody tells which jail.
During quit India movement, he was sent to a particular little makeshift jail called "Aga Khan Palace". Here r some pictures.
He was offered dinner in China plates and reading and writing material and food of his choice!!
4. Untouchables
Yes he was against untouchability but not against caste.
In his own words- collected works of mahatma gandhi volume 15
" I am opposed to the movements which are being carried on for the destruction of the caste system"
Ambedkar-
