A happy 116th Lal Bahadur Shastri birth anniversary to all.

He was the proper Rahul Dravid to the Nehruvian Tendulkar.

A short 🧵about the birthday boy.
He was born Lal Bahadur Shrivastava.

He gave up his surname when he was in 7th standard and was given the title “Shastri” meaning scholar after being one of the first students to graduate from the Kashi Vidyapith in Benares. "Shastri" meant graduate here.
Imagine your surname being your degree.

The noted Kannada writer SL Bhyrappa recounts an interesting story during the time he spent in New Delhi. On his visit to the bank, SL Bhyrappa recounts that the branch accountant was late because he missed his bus and had to wait for the next one.
SL Bhyrappa asked him "Why do you travel by bus? You work so hard. Buy a scooter."
The accountant smiled and said, "I have applied for a scooter loan. But it takes time to be sanctioned. Surely I shall have a scooter soon.".

The accountant was Lal bahadur Shastri’s son.
Once when Nehru and Shastri were at Rajghat on October 2nd, Nehru asked Shastri "I hear that today is your birthday?" to which Shatri mentioned "Today is the birthday of Gandhiji, and hence it is not only mine but everyone's birthday"
We end this thread with one of Shastriji's favourite verses by Guru Nanak:
"Nanak, nanhe hi raho, jaise nanhi doob, aur rukh sookh jayenge, doob khoob ki khoob" Nanak, be small like the blade of grass. When the other trees wither and die, the grass will continue to remain green
