I found the article by @debmattinson pretty poor. The post-election polling cited Corbyn, not #Brexit, as by far the biggest factor in Labour defection. And why should ex-Remainers listen to the Red Wall on Brexit, when it will harm them and has deprived everyone of rights? 1/ https://twitter.com/sebdance/status/1311760307707146240
The EU was not the source of the Red Wall’s grievances but we all seem to be fetishising it now. Fact is many voters there voted actively to put this vicious, corrupt government in power. At the very least, they, like right-wing Tories, can be asked to own what they did. 2/
Strategically, Labour can court them if it wishes but I suspect it will find it hard to keep many progressive ex-Remainers on board if its philosophical position on #Brexit remains indistinguishable from the Tories”. The early months of 2021 will tell. 3/
I know this thread will go down like a bag of sick with some Labour supporters who applaud Starmer’s bid to repair the dreadful damage done by Corbyn. But telling the North its voting choices in 2016 and 2019 were smart is doing favours to no one except Jacob Rees-Mogg.
