this is a good thread from someone who does good work, and explains the frustration in a more measured and diplomatic way than I have the emotional capacity to muster. https://twitter.com/dougli1sqrd/status/1311788579706662912
I am so tired of having the housing and homelessness work of an organization that I've given three and a half years of my life to, explained to me by some total jabroni who doesn't even live here
what part of my chapter's organizing would you call NIMBY? is it putting homeless people in hotels? is it organizing public housing tenants against demolition of their homes? is it supporting ppl being killed by toxic waste? is it universal right to counsel for eviction? do tell
was it helping another org doorknock tenants against SF's biggest landlord trying to force them out? was it trying to get unhoused people's confiscated property back from sweeps? was it supporting the Latinx community's demand for 100% affordable housing on BART? what was it?
is it trying to turn a gas station into a social housing pilot site? is it unionizing brewery & veterinary & restaurant workers for livable wages so they can afford rent? is it fundraising for a shelter so neglected for city funds that they asked us to paint the walls ourselves?
is it trying to get e-bikes to of delivery drivers? is it setting up a support network for San Franciscans unable to pay rent and scared of eviction? is it trying to get meaningful budget cuts to SFPD to plug up austerity gaps in our public services? I honestly can't tell 🤷🏾‍♀️
whatever it is, a lot of people on here seem to love talking out the side of their mouth about Bay Area socialists because they can. but you're only hurting people like the OP, and you're beclowning yourselves
