1. Quick take on PDX mayoral debate: @sarah2020 delivered tonight. I could see her in office, and I trust her to come prepared for this (thankless) job. She’s an accomplished community organizer and knows how to mobilize, and, more importantly, listen to the community she serves.
2. Mayor Wheeler tried and did ok, but I wasn’t convinced. Moreover, I think he showed us his best on the job and it just didn’t work. We should trust that he brought his A game to the job and can assess his actions to date.
3. Finally, while he talked about doing this job as “a calling,” I don’t buy it. I honestly think he ran for mayor because he saw it as a way to become governor at the time. He may not believe that anymore, but he seemed set on that course back then. Totally speculating here.
4. I just don’t think someone who is so affluent that they do not need a paycheck can relate to what day-to-day life is for most of us. Maybe he does need to be paid like the rest of us, and it is only because of COVID, but that’s not the message he communicated tonight.
5. I think it’s time to thank Mayor Wheeler for his service and give @sarah2020 a chance to take us on a different path. And I can’t help but remember that the last time I voted for a scrappy, barely known community organizer it was when I voted for Obama.
