Did you know that adolescents with ADHD are at an increased risk of suicide? Risk factors are discussed in the two sources in my next tweet!
Americans: texting “HOME” to 741-741 has helped this ADHDer stay alive during a crisis.

Happy second day of #ADHDAwarenessMonth!
Today’s PSA is for anyone who missed it the first hundred thousand times #ADHD folks said it: If you don’t have ADHD please don’t say things like “I’m so ADHD.” What you really mean is disorganized/forgetful/unfocused.
(Day 2, 1/2)

Using the name of our disorder to indicate your temporary state of being/temporary lack of doing is invalidating to us and perpetuates harmful stereotypes about ADHD.
ADHD brains function differently, but that doesn’t make us inherently lazy.

#ADHDAwarenessMonth Day 3: I saw this this morning and said “mood.” God, I will never forget the time I was so hyper-focused on a project I forgot to eat for two days. (This also serves as your friendly reminder that hyper-focus isn’t a super power ADHD folks can turn on/off.)
#ADHDAwarenessMonth day 4 I was originally going to talk about stimming today— that’s coming tomorrow now— but I found an article on brain stimulation and ADHD.
The article mostly addresses the reason why many people with ADHD are constantly seeking stimulation...

(Day 4, part 2)
But it also addresses the opposite end of the spectrum: being overstimulated!
PS: did you know ADHD folks may experience physiological discomfort when we aren’t getting the right level of stimulation?

#ADHDAwarenessMonth day 5, 1/3
A friend recently told me a story about one of her grade school classmates who was given permission to chew gum in class to help him focus, and asked about the science behind it.

Day 5, 2/3
Yes, there is scientific evidence that chewing gum can help people focus (among other things—although maybe not jaw problems)!
Beyond that, I would suggest that if chewing a pencil while concentrating is a stim, then chewing gum could definitely also count!

Day 5, 3/3
Let’s look at the definition from the 1st source: “stimming is a type of sensation-seeking that can ease feelings of anxiety, frustration, and boredom.”
Chewing gum is a repetitive motion that feels good and improves focus. Therefore, it’s a common stim!

Belated day 6 of #ADHDAwarenessMonth
Here is a meme that feels accurate of my experiences with my own ADHD. (Just remember that maybe not everyone with ADHD will feel this way.)

Day 7 of #ADHDAwarenessMonth
A lot of the things on this list apply to ADHD! (Maybe even all of them!) ADHD friends, which of these ableist things negatively impacted you?

Day 7, part 2:
Somehow my ADHD didn’t get diagnosed until 5th grade, despite struggling with numerous things on this list.
I’ll share my diagnosis story soon, but here’s a spoiler: my ADHD wasn’t even the catalyst for my diagnosis.
