Long thread but give it a read.

I never wanted to leave this country and fought my friends who used to convince me that its better to leave this country if u r a woman. But what happened today, I don't want to take another breathe here

I'm an activist, social worker, vlogger, student of law, biker, my parents don't put restrictions on me. Yet, it is difficult for me to travel in this country. I planned to travel Pakistan on my bike and it was my third bike trip today . . .

I & my friend were on our way. We were supposed to stop at a dhabba few miles away & continue our journey after that. We were stopped by a police van, they checked all our documents but us sey bh dil nahi bhara . . .

They asked me if my parents know that I am traveling at this hour with a male friend & I said yes. He asked me to call them, I called them and my father told him to let me go & he knows that I am traveling . .
5/n
He wasn't willing to accept that it was my father on the call. He kept on shouting at us, my father on the call and then my father sent his ID card on WhatsApp to prove that he is my father . .

He didn't stop here...took us to a hotel, ordered chaye and lectured me for an hour that how wrong it is for women to travel like this, how I am wasting my parent's money, how he is so ashamed that girls like me exist. .

If CCPO Lahore was removed and told how wrong he is to moral police a woman, it would not have happened with me. It is not the job of the police to do this. But who will tell them this?

I didn't say anything at that time for obvious reasons. It would not have taken him much time to make a fake case against me and it would have been tough for me to prove my innocence being a woman in this country

I am still not naming the police officer because
a) it is not just him, it is our whole system. Patriarchy rach bas gai hay. b) if I name him and demand some action to be taken against him, his supporters will come forward and make a fake story, malign my reputation and boom

This country is hell for women.

I cannot travel without father, brother or husband.
I don't have a lot of money to travel with guards.

I'm a student, doing part time jobs and saving money for my trips...but guess what? I cannot do any trip from now on.

It is curse to be a woman in this country. Patriarchy is the real evil. Our whole system is patriarchal and it needs to dismantle or else there is no hope.
And yes, my male friend wasn't asked to call his father & prove that he has come with his permission.
Was so happy before leaving Islamabad :(((((((((((((((

Patriarchy pe laanat e be shumar !
Ghatiya family system pe laanat e be shumar !
Never understood why our social relations need a change more than accountability of the ones in the power when @NidaKirmani tweeted about it. But now I understand how important it is for a change to happen in family system before this country becomes livable for women!
If it wasn't for our family system where a girl always needs permission of his father, brother or husband before everything..it wouldn't have happened today!
I love my family so so much for never stopping me from doing things but uggggh on this system!
Jbtw, I am a 21 years old adult woman who is not even financially dependent on her family but guess this is not enough if your gender is something other than cis men
