The studio was right to have them give Little Shop of Horrors a happy ending.

You can say they did it for whatever reason, but I think it& #39;s clear that Rick Moranis was too liable and his journey seemed at least somewhat more righteous than the original intended. He& #39;s a shy dweeb who learns to assert himself under the wrong circumstances--
then he finally wises up, pushes back and learns to assert himself at the right time and ends up mostly happy. You can find it trite, but it just works better. Feel free to watch that original like 20 minute sequence of plants destroying cities if you want. Doesn& #39;t do it for me.
I guess ultimately the original& #39;s moral is, "Getting swept away and manipulated means you deserve the horrible things that happen to you as a result." That would work if I ever thought Seymour was wrong. Never did.
The key scene is Mushnik extorting him. Positive in the original play Mushnik is much more nuanced, so Seymour& #39;s choice seems objectively horrible rather than somewhat justified.
