In last 24 hours, just a ton of immigration news. Not counting of course the pain and trauma felt by tens of millions of people each day. A few things I want to make sure people see—as part of once in a century all-in effort to slash immigration, and the fight against it:
1) In awful, tragically expected news, the admin waiting until minutes before a deadline to announce they were slashing refugee levels once again. They’re now cutting by ~95% from the post-war consensus per capita levels. A true tragedy. Our statement in pic:
Let’s see what DHS and CBP have been up to...
2) The country’s largest immigration enforcement effort did this https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/internal-document-shows-trump-officials-were-told-make-comments-sympathetic-n1241581">https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/...

3) And this. Which is just absolutely horrid. Not actually fully ready to discuss this yet. https://www.vice.com/en/article/5dz7zd/border-patrol-snipers-were-authorized-to-use-deadly-force-at-george-floyds-burial">https://www.vice.com/en/articl...
4) The House of Representatives debated — and tomorrow will vote — on a formal resolution condemning the abuses at the ICE jail, the Irwin Detention Facility. This is a good step in response to these horrors and the pain inflicted upon these people and their families.
5) The House voted on a “skinny” Heroes Act which has very strong, albeit imperfect, immigrant inclusion provisions. The Senate should pass it immediately, whether the President is for it not. Great work to this who worked on this.
6) Back to the bad: the President’s xenophobic demagoguery was at this worst last night in Minnesota, where attacked refugees and immigrants, Somali-Americans, and Congresswoman Omar in particular. He lied a lot. It was vile stuff. Just horrible and deeply shameful.
If you get a minute, dig in deeper here. https://www.vox.com/2020/10/1/21496814/trump-duluth-rally-ilhan-omar-refugees
You">https://www.vox.com/2020/10/1... might remember the “caravans are taking our lake houses” anecdote from 2 years ago. That was MN. The President basically is treating it as his new Phoenix, as he’s losing and this isn’t working for him in AZ.

7) Ok - back to the good!
Last night, in a big win, the President’s effort to kill the diversity visa (which you can tie back in to his attacks on Black immigrants from above tweet) has failed. Been blocked! Great lawyering from so many. Read more here: https://twitter.com/KarenTumlin/status/1311474883935657989">https://twitter.com/KarenTuml...

9) oh and it turns out we weren’t being cruel enough to some potential refugees, so more anti-Muslim efforts put into policy here: https://twitter.com/kannoyoungs/status/1311817433058078720">https://twitter.com/kannoyoun...
10) ok back to some great and BREAKING news: a federal judge ruled to block the Trump admin from their efforts to block non-immigrant visas (guest workers). This is a huge win. Big big deal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/01/us/foreign-workers-visas-h-1b-trump.html?referringSource=articleShare">https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/0...

Ok I’m going to pause there. They also admitted they didn’t have an economic case on attacking some high skilled immigration. And I’m confident I missed major stuff *just from the last 24 hours.” And as I said, not touching the unnecessary terror and trauma inflicted upon folks
Anyway: things can either get much better—with a shot to finally transform a long broken system Trump weaponized—or they will get much, much, much worse.
And I’m sorry if I didn’t put in something huge that you’re fighting on — as I said, this is just a sample.
