Nurses really do deserve far more credit from people and good faith from employers. What they have to deal with is exhausting and they have to take it all in stride. The past week's been super illuminating on that front, especially in how certified people are treated in BC.
I wasn't certified, but my roommate was and so were most others in the ward. It's incredible how the system works, how it fails people, and how nurses are often working without the right supports. It is a situation where no one wins.
And on that note, the nurses made my stay less terrible than it could have been. It was striking how often they had the same information I did, yet they were capable of taking action regardless. Both the ER and ward nurses were impressive in character and performance.
While St. Paul's is a little light on amenities to make patient care more comfortable, I can't complain about my stay. I'm alive because of my nurses. They got me through a truly awful week.

Which leads me to ask... how on earth do I thank my nurses in a way that isn't weird?
